Miguel Andujar went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored on Wednesday against the Mets.

Andujar just missed a home run as his double clanked off the right field fence before coming around to score on a sac fly. He’s been a surprising source of batting average, albeit without power, as his average stands at .291 after 66 games played.

Joey Estes scattered seven hits and gave up three runs in 5 1/3 on Wednesday in a loss against the Mets.

Estes is growing as a pitcher despite not yet getting over that hump. He worked around a lot of hard contact and two homers from the Mets to keep his team in the game. It’s been five starts since he’s allowed more than two runs. Also, keep an eye on his sweeper: he struggles to command it, but has been throwing it more and more. That pitch has the highest Stuff+ grade in his repertoire by far and could hold the key to him handling right-handed batters more consistently.

Athletics sent LHP Kyle Muller outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Muller will have to accept the assignment. He went unclaimed on waivers in spite of an acceptable 4.22 ERA in 42 2/3 innings out of the A’s pen. That he’s throwing softer as a reliever than he did as a starter last year was certainly a factor there.

Max Muncy went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI for Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The A’s prospect won the battles of the Max Muncies, though it was the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate that prevailed 10-8 in the game. The original Muncy would up 1-for-5 in his rehab game as he comes back from an oblique strain. The younger Muncy, no relation, is now hitting .291/.382/.520 in 43 games for Las Vegas. He’s been overtaken by Jacob Wilson as the A’s shortstop of the future, but he should get a look at second or third at some point, even if it’s not until next year.

OAK Starting Pitcher #35

Joe Boyle allowed four earned runs over four innings while striking out six in Tuesday’s win over the Mets.

Boyle made it through the first four innings unscathed but gave up four runs in the fifth thanks to an RBI double by Brandon Nimmo and a two-RBI single by Pete Alonso. Boyle didn’t retire any of the five batters he faced in the fifth inning, and was pulled in favor of Austin Adams after walking Mark Vientos with no outs and a runner on first. It was a tough outing for Boyle, who, despite tying a season-high with six strikeouts, has now allowed eight earned runs over his last five innings pitched. He’s well off the fantasy radar for his next outing, which is scheduled to come on Monday against the Rays.

Shea Langeliers went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, and four RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Mets.

It was quite the night for Langeliers, who fell a triple shy of the cycle while going 4-for-4 at the dish. Langeliers padded an early 4-1 lead for the Athletics in the third inning when he blasted a three-run shot off former teammate Paul Blackburn to push the Athletics’ lead to 7-1. It was the 22nd homer of the season for Langeliers, who has also hit in three-straight games after a slow start to the month. He doubled in the sixth inning to score JJ Bleday and is now sitting on 38 extra-base hits on the season.
Seth Brown

Seth Brown went 1-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Mets.

Brown got the scoring started for the Athletics in the first inning when he doubled home Shea Langeliers, JJ Bleday, and Brent Rooker with the bases loaded. That double was hit off a familiar foe in Paul Blackburn, who was traded from the Athletics to the Mets at last month’s deadline. Brown has struggled this month, entering the day with just three hits. He remains off the fantasy radar at this time.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters Ross Stripling is being moved to the bullpen.

The Athletics are going to look at some of their younger alternatives in their starting rotation for the remainder of the season as their long-term rebuilding effort continues. The 34-year-old veteran will pitch in long relief duty for the final few weeks of the year.
