Brenton Doyle went 2-for-5 with a double on Wednesday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Doyle was one of the few bright spots in this one for Colorado as the Rockies went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring positon and left eight men on base in a blowout loss. The 26-year-old is still striking out at a healthy clip, but he’s done a ton of damage this season when he makes contact, flourishing as a power/speed combo threat for fantasy managers. He’s starting to heat up again after a bit of a cold spell at the dish over the last few weeks, which is an encouraging sign. He’s probably going to be extremely streaking for the rest of his career.
Tanner Gordon

COL Starting Pitcher #29

Tanner Gordon recorded two outs and was charged with four runs (three earned) on Wednesday in a loss the Diamondbacks.

On the heels of a solid outing last Friday where he struck out seven and allowed two runs over five innings against the Braves, Gordon was tagged for three runs and failed to make it out of the opening frame on Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field. Not great. It’s unclear whether he’ll get another turn in the Rockies’ starting rotation after this implosion. We’ll see. Regardless, he’s not a recommended option for fantasy managers.
Austin Gomber

COL Starting Pitcher #26

Austin Gomber pitched six innings of two-run ball against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Gomber left with a one-run lead, but it failed to hold up. He’s been just a tad shy of being a league-average starter for this year, yet he’s picked up all of three wins in 23 starts. Unfortunately, the Rockies’ omnipresent incompetence is something that will cost him significant money in arbitration this winter.
Victor Vodnik

COL Relief Pitcher #38

Victor Vodnik gave up two runs in the ninth to take a blown save and a loss versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

It’s Vodnik’s first blown save in nine tries since he became the Rockies’ primary closer, though this is also his second bad outing in a week; he gave up three runs after coming into a tie game to take a loss last Wednesday. He’s still probably the favorite for saves in the Colorado pen for now, but this may open things back up again.
Ryan McMahon

COL Third Baseman #24

Ryan McMahon struck out all four times up against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

It’s his second golden sombrero in four days. McMahon is batting .127/.300/.230 since the All-Star break. His OPS by month has gone from .892 in March/April to .783 to .747 to .716 and now to .438 in August. It’d be just like him to bounce back as soon as we write him off, so we’re not going to fall into that trap. Still, this is ugly.
Charlie Blackmon

COL Right Fielder #19

Charlie Blackmon finished 0-for-4 as the Rockies’ leadoff man in Monday’s loss to the Diamondbacks.

Blackmon is batting .238/.314/.286 during the second half, and he’s gone 12 straight games without an extra-base hit. We’d worry about him losing some playing time with Jordan Beck up and Nolan Jones set to be activated soon, but these are the Rockies... he’ll likely remain a fixture against righties.
Kris Bryant

COL First Baseman #23

Rockies placed OF Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 11, with a strained back.

13, 11 and 13 games. That’s how long Bryant’s body has been able to hold up in between stints on the injured list this season. When he has been able to play, he’s hit .218 with two homers and 48 strikeouts in 133 plate appearances. It’s just brutal, and he isn’t yet even halfway through his seven-year contract.
Jordan Beck

COL Left Fielder #27

Rockies recall OF Jordan Beck from Triple-A Albuquerque.

It’s interesting that the Rockies didn’t just activate Nolan Jones in Kris Bryant’s spot, but Beck is back for now. We’d like to see him in the lineup the rest of the way, but that would almost certainly mean sitting Jake Cave, something that we’re not sure Bud Black will be able to bring himself to do. The Rockies can work it out for now, but Jones, who is out of options, has to be activated soon and he’s going to need to play, too.
Kris Bryant

COL First Baseman #23

The Rockies are placing Kris Bryant on the IL with a back strain and calling up Jordan Beck, according to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding.

We don’t doubt Harding’s report, but while the Rockies have made two pitching moves official, they haven’t posted this transaction yet. Assuming it’s true, Bryant will have played 13 games in between IL stints, matching his season high.
Bradley Blalock

COL Relief Pitcher #25

Rockies recalled RHP Bradley Blalock from Double-A Hartford.

Blalock, who was acquired from the Brewers in the Nick Mears deal two weeks ago, was just announced as the Rockies’ starter tonight in place of Cal Quantill. He had a 6.17 ERA in two starts for Hartford.
